Eglin c
Eglin c is an elastse/cathepsin G inhibitor from the leech Hirudo medicinalis. It is an 8.1 kDa protein proteinase inhibitor, and now produced by genetic engineering. It is a potent serine proteinase inhibitor. The three-dimensional structure of native eglin and complexes are clear.
Eglin c is a single polypeptide chain of 70 amino acid residues. Its structure is extremely stable despite the lack of disulphide bridges.
