Enterostatin is a pentapeptide, it is derived from the procolipase in the gastrointestinal tract. It can reduce food intake (particular fat intake), once given peripherally or into the brain.

Enterostatin is secreted by pancreatic procolipase in the intestine. It is created in the gastric mucosa and the mucosal epithelia in the small intestine. The high fat diets will cause the procolipase gene transcription, and release enterostatin into gastrointestinal lumen. It has been shown to reduce fat intake selectively in the normal meal.
