Gastric Inhibitory Peptide (GIP)
Gastric inhibitory peptide (gastric inhibitory polypeptide) is also known as glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide. It is abbreviated as GIP, and an inhibiting hormone of the secretin family. Althouge it is a weak inhibitor of gastirc acid secretion, it has main role in stimulation of insulin secretion. GIP along with GLP (glucagon-like peptide), belongs to the class of incretin molecules.
