Histone
Histones are high basic proteins with lysine and arginine residues, which are found in eukaryotic cell nuclei. Histones can prevent DNA from tangling and protect form damage. In addition, histones have important roles in gene regulation and DNA replication.
Histones can be chemically modified by enzyme actions, the most common modification are the methylation of arginine or lysine residues or the acetylation of lysine.
