Integrins are the family of cell adhesion receptors, they bind to extracellular matrix EMC ligands, cell surface ligands, and soluble ligands. Integrins provide rapid and flexible response to interaction at the cell surface, like: signal platelets to initiate an interaction with coagulation factors.

Integrins are trans-membrane receptors, which can assist cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) adhesion. In ligand binding, integrins activate signal transduction pathways, like regulation of the cell cycle, organization of the intracellular cytoskeleton, movement of new receptors to the cell membrane.
